Comminuted Fracture

The first phalangeal bone (P1) is the longest of three bones below the fetlock. This area of the leg is under constant forces and in some athletic horses, torsional forces can occasionally cause the bone to fracture into multiple pieces. Treatment depends on the configuration of the fracture.
