EPM – Equine Protozoal Myeloencephalopathy is a neurologic disease in which small parasites infest the spinal cord. The presence of the these protozoa cause inflammation leading to disruption of various nervous pathways. Due to the various locations along the spinal cord that can be affected, multiple symptoms can be seen ranging from ataxia, incoordination, muscle wasting and recumbency.
