Physitis is inflammation of a growth plate or physis. Common locations are just above the fetlock, hock or carpus. It occurs in young, growing horses. Swelling occurs around the area and there is usually flaring of the bone at the physis. Horses with physitis are usually lame and painful upon palpation of the region.
